16U Development Team
About Team Midwest 16U AA
Team Midwest 16U AA is a competitive development program designed to bring together the top 16U players from across the Midwest Amateur Hockey Association (MWAHA) region for high-level training, skill development, and exposure to elite competition. Players born in 2010 or 2011 are eligible to participate. Unlike the 18U AA program, the 16U AA team does not compete at a USA Hockey National Tournament and does not continue past the Fall Season.
The focus of the 16U AA program is development — giving players the tools, experience, and competitive foundation they need to advance to the 18U level of Team Midwest. The program is designed to complement — not conflict with — players' high school hockey commitments. The season runs from mid-July through the first weekend of October, at which point players return to their respective high school teams for the Midwest High School Hockey League (MHSHL) season.
The goal is for each athlete to return to their local association better, more confident, and more prepared — and to carry that growth forward into the next level of their hockey career.

Home Rink: Ames/ISU Arena — Ames, Iowa
Eligible Birth Years: 2010 & 2011
Season Structure:
- Mid-July: Practices begin at Ames/ISU Arena
- August – First Weekend of October: Competitive games and tournaments (20+ games, 4 tournaments)
- October: Season concludes; players are released to rejoin their home associations for the MHSHL season
- October – March: Players compete with their local associations for the remainder of the season
